Al Pollock at the 1(F) Sqn reunion in 2012
Sad news from the Hunter Register:
It is my sad duty to relay to the Hunter Register, all veterans, also public admirers alike, that surrounded by his loving family our inspirational former colleague and loyal friend ‘Al’ Pollock passed away peacefully on Tuesday 1st July 2025, at Eastlake Care Home, Godalming.
Al’s wishes for a private family ‘no fuss’ cremation shall be honoured. Al is survived by Trish, also by Alison, Duncan, John, Ann, and his grandchildren.
Condolences to Mrs Trish Pollock, Grantley Clos, 15 Aven Close, Cranleigh, Surrey, GU6 8BU.
Al’s biography shall follow.
Highest regards,
Keith Piggott
Speaking personally, Al always a most exceptional pilot was generous with his time and had not a mean bone in his body. His commitment to the service and just causes is witnessed by signatures on “Here’s to you Al” presented by ACM Sir Peter Squire at No.1 (Fighter) Squadron reunion. As regular wingman to Al, we formally ‘wired’ Andoya, airbase in Norway to test radar-laid AA guns. Truly, no one got lower, or faster, except Andy Green in Thrust SSC.

logbook. RAF Jever in the north and Ahlhorn in the south have been ringed.
The airfield at Oldenburg can be seen more than halfway between these bases,
with Nordhorn bottom left and Wunstorf bottom right on this small section.
Alan contributed many articles to Fourfax over the years. He was famous, of course, for his flight under the upper span of Tower Bridge in 1968.
