The service to dedicate the IV Squadron stained glass window was held at St Mihangel’s Church RAF Valley on 23rd September 2012 to conclude the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Squadron. The church was full for the event despite the previous night’s celebrations!
The service was lead by Padre Reverend (Squadron Leader) Stewart Shaw and included a reading of ‘High Flight’ by OC IV, Wg Cdr Kevin Marsh. The service concluded with a presentation of flowers to the artist Karen Newby who has produced a truly outstanding piece of work.
The stained glass window sits to the inside of the exterior cross diamond leaded church window (the church is listed and the exterior windows cannot be replaced), and is one of a number of similar windows in the church with an RAF theme.
The plaque underneath the window reads:
“THIS WINDOW WAS DEDICATED ON SUNDAY THE 23RD SEPTEMBER 2012 TO COMMEMORATE THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF IV SQUADRON
THIS WAS MADE POSSIBLE THANKS TO THE GENEROUS DONATION FROM THE IV SQUADRON ASSOCIATION”
The photos below show various view of the window and interior of the church. The diamond leaded pattern from the window which sits behind the stained glass is not so apparent in reality as these photos suggest. The Order of Service is included as a link to a pdf file.
Thanks once again to all those who donated to the window fund, the result is a truly worthwhile commemoration to all who have served on IV Squadron.
